A Quiet Night Walk at Yoyogi Hachimangu Shrine in Tokyo ⛩️

Actually, very close to MoonTed, there is an old shrine called Yoyogi Hachimangu Shrine.

It was founded more than 800 years ago, during the early Kamakura period.

Even though it is located right next to a large road in central Tokyo, the atmosphere changes strangely once you pass through the torii gate.

Even for me, who was born and raised in this neighborhood, it still feels a little mysterious.

Tokyo is exciting and convenient, but at the same time, it can keep the brain and nervous system in a constant state of tension.

Social media, news, work, relationships, AI…

Sometimes it feels like the human brain never fully turns off anymore.

But when I walk inside Yoyogi Hachimangu, I slowly feel my physical senses returning.

In summer, large frogs jump across the wet moss, and you can hear the sound of trees and shrine flags moving in the wind.

Late at night, when the shrine becomes quiet, there is a strange feeling that reminds you that your body is still connected to the ground beneath you.

When I feel mentally tired or think too much, I often find myself walking there late at night.

Since childhood, this shrine has always been part of my life.

My first shrine visit as a baby, New Year visits, local festivals… all of them happened here.

Years ago, before it became well known, local troublemaking kids used to gather there at night, so for me it still feels more like part of everyday life than a tourist spot.

I think MoonTed also wants to be a little like that.

Not a place that strongly changes people, but a place where overstimulated minds and nervous systems can slowly return to a more natural state.

If you visit MoonTed at night, maybe stop by Yoyogi Hachimangu for a short walk before going home 🌛

It is only about one minute from my spa.
