True Rest in a Digital World: Why a "Digital Detox" is essential for your brain.

This photo was taken by a client while she was relaxing on the treatment bed.
She is incredibly busy.
Even while sipping her tea and after the session began, her phone never stopped buzzing with Slack notifications from work.😭
She came here to "escape" and rest her mind and body. Yet, every time a notification popped up, her attention was pulled back to the outside world. Seeing that made me feel a quiet sense of heartache for her.
Of course, I’m truly grateful that she chose to spend her precious, jam-packed time at my salon. But at the same time, I couldn't help but think, "I wish she could be free from her phone, at least for this short while."
It’s well-known in neuroscience that every time we check a notification, our brain releases an excess of dopamine. When this continues, the brain is forced into a constant state of "multi-tasking" while waiting for the next hit of stimulation, leading to more exhaustion than we realize.
Moreover, there is data showing that just having a smartphone in your field of vision—even if it's silent—lowers your cognitive ability. The brain actually consumes its resources just to "ignore" the phone, making it impossible to truly rest.
So, paradoxically, for those who want to boost their work performance, taking time to physically distance yourself from your phone is essential.
Even if it’s just for a few hours at the salon, I encourage you to set aside your phone and focus on the scent of flowers and the sensation of your own skin.
I’d be happy if you could use my treatments as a chance for that kind of "Digital Detox" ♪
